Preserving the natural environments is one of the fundamental tasks of the Parc du Pilat. The charter specifies how this mission is expressed in Pilat.

The ambition of the Parc du Pilat is to understand, preserve, manage and follow the evolution of the natural environments and their species.

But it is hardly possible to know everything about this area !

The actions undertaken

The Park charter therefore, defines the priority themes distinguishing the “Remarkable Nature” which refers to the areas and species of particular interest as entered on reference lists (protected, rare or endangered species...). From the knowledge of the whereabouts of this heritage, five Priority Ecological Sites (S.E.P), representing the biodiversity of Pilat, have been identified.

Then there is the “Ordinary Nature”, that we see every day.
The Park pledges in its charter to give particular attention to reducing pollution.

Thus, the Park is focussing on three areas:

Knowledge
Knowledge that is more focused on the species that are at stake, included in the reference lists and researched in the S.E.P. (Priority Ecological Sites). On the other hand, the inventory and cartography of areas was carried out throughout the whole Park.
Preservation
Preservation through management centred in the Priority Ecological Sites, with piloted and experimental operations aiming to safeguard and maintain the ecological wealth of the most interesting sites. This operates more broadly in the massif, with quality restoration programmes being carried out by the likes of the agri-environmental measures group.
Monitoring
Monitoring using various devices according to the particular objective: specific monitoring of heritage species, monitoring of bird species revealing the overall quality of the areas, evaluation monitoring of management actions drawing from the flora...
