Agriculture and forest
Agriculture and forestry are both structural elements of the landscape, ecological balance and even economy of the massif. That is why the issues concerning them are crucial for the future of Pilat in more ways than one.
Develop agriculture and preserve environmement
Agriculture and forestry are a strategic component of the Pilat regional nature Park’s area project. If indeed they constitute the foundations of the economy of the massif, they play a vital role in safeguarding the resources, the landscapes, and the natural and cultural heritage. They add greatly to the residential and tourist attraction thanks to the positive contribution they make to the quality of life.
With regard to agriculture, the Park’s mission is to develop an agriculture which contributes to the economic and social life of the region while preserving the environment in which it is practised.
The aims of the agricultural activities included in the charter are to:
- Promote sustainable systems
- Support the development of quality products and services
- Ensure the consistency of agricultural policies
The actions undertaken
With sustainable development always in mind the Park and all its partners are working towards a better system of forest production. By 2010 the ambition is to be able to contain the advancing forest but also to increase the amount of timber put on the market by 20% while maintaining employment in the sector.
The Park intervenes in order to:
- Network and inform the people involved with the forest and visitors.
- Optimise the forest service in the interest of economic and environmental integration.
- Find more efficient methods of forest production.
- Structure the dendro-energy industry.

Promotion de l'agriculture durable
- Conditions de vie et de travail dans les exploitations agricoles du Pilat
- Accompagner les dispositifs de contractualisation agri-environnementaux
- Soutenir l’obtention des signes de qualité : AOC de la rigotte de Condrieu
- Animer des dispositifs de gestion de l'espace (PLGE)
- Commission paritaire agriculture durable
- Réflexion prospective sur l'avenir de la production laitière dans le Pilat
