The creation of Pilat regional nature park

The Parc du Pilat was born, in 1974, of the collective awareness of the urban residents of their commitment to the Pilat massif, its rich nature and spectacular scenery.

An idea

The first person to put out the idea of creating a Park in Pilat was Claude Berthier, a teacher at the Lycée Claude Fauriel, Saint Etienne, from 1946.

Twenty years later, it was the doctor and member of parliament, Bernard Muller, a doctor for the Saint Etienne hospitals, who took up the idea. They managed to convince the people of Pilat of the quality of their environment and the necessity to preserve it.

Since decentralisation, the representatives of the residents and urban dwellers have worked together to plan out the Park territory project.
